This statement sets out how Chiswick School will use its 16 to 19 tuition fund allocation to support students who have been academically disadvantaged due to Coronavirus (COVID-19).

What is the 16-19 Tuition Fund?

The 16 to 19 tuition fund is £96 million of one-off funding provided for 16 to 19 providers to mitigate the disruption to learning arising from coronavirus (COVID-19).

Who can be supported by this fund?

The funding is being provided to support small group tuition for students who are aged 16 to 19 in English, maths, and other courses where learning has been disrupted. For example, vocational courses where assessment has been deferred because of lockdown. Although the actual tuition does not need to be for GCSE English or maths, the students supported all need to be those who had not achieved grade 5 or above in at least one of those subjects at this level by age 16. All supported students must be on a 16 to 19 study programme.

Chiswick School will prioritise support for students who have not achieved a grade 4 in English and/or Maths.

Chiswick School will prioritise students that will benefit most from small group tuition and should also have regard to the needs of students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), particularly where they have experienced additional disruption to learning as a result of their specific needs and disabilities.

At Chiswick School the funding will be used to support the tuition activity above and beyond the programmes of education already planned.

How will Chiswick School be using the fund?

In accordance with the conditions laid out by the fund we will:

  • Offer additional catch up support sessions for small groups of students.
  • Use the sessions for small groups and 1:1 tuition in English, Maths and vocational learning for 16 to 19-year-old learners.
  • Provide this tuition in addition to the planned study programme hours.
  • Purchase bespoke resources for students targeted in the tuition catch up and use these to support their learning.

Our commitment

Chiswick School is committed to a no detriment approach to learners, to ensure no student is disadvantaged by the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. We will ensure that the tuition fund is used in accordance with the Government’s guidance on the 16 to 19 Tuition Fund by:

  • Producing this statement setting out how the fund will be used to support the most disadvantaged students.
  • Publishing this statement on the College website.
  • Recording the use of the fund, including references to individual students who receive support, the needs of those students, the number of hours of tuition delivered and retaining the evidence of the tuition provided.
  • Delivering the extra tuition and spending the allocated funds each academic year.
  • Notifying the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) of any underspend from the Fund for it to be reclaimed.
