Chiswick has a very busy Music Department. In the academic year 2023-24, we had 58 public performances at over 20 different venues.
In this section you can find all the information relating to music groups that we offer, instrumental lessons, scholarship and details of how to book our musicians for external events.
Ensembles, Choirs, and Bands
At Chiswick we have a whole array of exciting music groups for your child to get involved in.
Chiswick Voices is our top level senior choir, open to singers in year 9 and above. Entry is by audition, and those interested should speak to the head of music. They have performed at numerous venues both in and out of school and have sung a variety of classical, liturgical, and contemporary music, everything from Faure's Requiem to Get Around by The Beach Boys. Chiswick Voices rehearses every day from 8:25-8:50am
Chiswick Steel Band is one of our most cherished groups. No experience is needed whatsoever, only commitment to learn something new. They have recently learnt songs from Ed Sheeran, Imagine Dragons and Justin Timberlake. The Steel Band is in much demand, having performed at Heathrow Terminal 5, Chiswick High Road, Brentford Stadium as well as many more schools and pubs. For 2024-25, the Y9+ band rehearses on Mondays, the Y8 band rehearses on Wednesdays, and the Y7 band rehearses on Tuesdays, all at 3:30-4:30pm
Chiswick Orchestra is our School Orchestra, we meet on a project-by-project basis to perform two big classical concerts a year. Recent repertoire has included Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, Finlandia, Summertime, and The Lord of the Rings Suite

Individual Lessons
We offer individual lessons in all standard string, woodwind, brass, keyboard and percussion instruments, as well as singing. You can sign up for lessons here.
All instrumental lessons are provided by Hounslow Music Service at the following rates:
10 x 20 minute lessons - £160 per term
10 x 30 minute lessons - £225 per term
For GCSE and A level Music students, the rate is £110 for 10 x 30 minute lessons per term. Discounts are also available for students on Free School Meals
All lessons are weekly and normally happen during the school day. While the lesson day tends to remain the same each week, the timing varies weekly so that a pupil does not miss the same academic lesson two weeks in a row.
Scholarships
We are very pleased to offer Music Scholarships for talented pupils in Year 6 for entry into year 7.
For September 2025, we are looking for up to 10 music scholars to join us in Year 7. Music scholars will receive a guaranteed place at the school, regardless of home location, and free lessons for at least 3 years. Candidates must have an enthusiasm for music and also qualify for pupil premium funding.
