Year 9 Geography - Dipo Faloyin Talk
On Friday 20th of September, we welcomed Dipo Faloyin, a journalist and author of ‘Africa is Not a Country’, to speak to Year 9. In Year 8, the students studied a unit that was designed based on this book and looking to break down stereotypes of the continent. Dipo discussed how the colonisation of Africa and its borders were decided, how this has had long lasting impacts on the continent and how this influenced the stereotypes of today. He talked about how this continues in our media and politics, as well as how we can address this. Dipo has also agreed to talk to the Geography teachers in the Hounslow Education Partnership to support how we can develop a diverse and inclusive curriculum.
