- Jamie's Farm Trip
As we arrived into the farmyard, students handed in their phones and technology to begin a week of hard work, reflection and so much positivity.
Every morning, we were split up into groups and either fed the livestock (including lots of new-born lambs!) or cooked a hearty breakfast for everyone's return. We then set out on our day's work chopping wood to fuel the farm, mucking out the stables, gardening or cooking. Everything had a purpose! For some this was completely new. Students were incredibly resilient to every task and showed real determination to do well. Our twice daily check-ins were important for everyone to share how they were feeling and express positive characteristics or things they had done well to others through a shout-out each time.
Leian - "It gave me an opportunity that I wouldn't have had in the first place."
Mason - "The farm was really calm and relaxed and it made me really self-aware."
Sumaya - "Jamie's Farm had a chilled atmosphere which helped me focus."
Mrs Whitaker - "I saw goodness and reflection in every single student and it was a pleasure to watch them grow in confidence over the week."
We all, students and staff alike, came back from our time on Jamie's Farm completely recharged. We were so content with the simple life we had just spent with each other for five days and many of us said how much we miss the farm, even now.
We are due to have our mid-point reflection next week to see how we have been getting on since and our six-week reflection after Easter where we'll cook a lovely meal for the staff at Jamie's Farm who were all phenomenal and we'll celebrate our successes.
Many thanks to Ms Emmett, Mr Richardson Junior and Senior and to Mrs Whitaker for supporting the students with this experience.
