BackHumanutopia
By Avi, Year 9
We, Chiswick School, were lucky and honoured to welcome Humanutopia into our school, who were genuine eye-openers. Naturally as teenagers, we were not into the ‘whole day assembly’ thing, but were astonished when we found out that they had planned an impactful yet really fun day. I’d say that these people were very different from other motivational speakers, they didn’t just speak, they listened. They were funny, understanding, interactive and energetic at all times, never forceful though. Although they had quite a lengthy introduction, they shared their personal/relatable stories, which was a good way of connecting with us as children.
They then did an interactive role play which had impact and was kind of comedic. This was followed by a session where the speakers asked for honesty, which required us to stand up if a certain scenario spoke to us. This could be a trauma, racial, verbal or physical abuse. We were not forced to speak about it but were encouraged to. This was an amazing opportunity to speak about past encounters. I found this a very powerful activity.
Next, we did another interactive session where we were put in random groups which really encouraged us to interact with other people from our year group. This was really good as I actually made a new friend.
Overall, I had an amazing day that really enlightened future opportunities. Thank you, Humanutopia.
