Year 9 Science Museum Trip
On 23rd November, A Level Design & Technology and Computer Science students enjoyed an engaging and insightful afternoon with visiting speaker Dr Stephen Hicks. Dr Hicks is an award winning Oxford neuroscientist, medtech founder, AR pioneer and Ted speaker. In his talk, he gave students an insight into his career, demonstrating that a career is a journey which can take many different turns along the way.
Students were fascinated by the work Dr Hicks had carried out while at Oxford University, which was at the cutting edge of medical innovation, combining neuroscience, computer vision, augmented reality and wearable technologies to change the lives of people living with visual impairment.
There were lots of opportunities to ask questions throughout the afternoon and the students impressed staff with the range and depth of questions asked.
A highlight of the talk for both students and staff was the opportunity to interact with a range of wearable technologies, something which we are unlikely to do again.
