Year 10 RS Immersion Day

Year 10 students all had a day off timetable on the 10th of July to attend various workshops within Religion & Philosophy. The focus of the day was ‘What does Hounslow Believe?’. So students explored different perspectives that are especially prominent in Hounslow in comparison to the rest of the UK (on average).

Students enjoyed a workshop in Hinduism, Christianity, Sikhism and Islam in which they had a chance to ask questions to representatives of each faith including Navleen Kaur MBE. Students had a chance to test out their creative skills when attempting to make paper cranes in a workshop on nuclear disarmament to learn about the story of Sadako, a young girl who died as a result of radiation. Students considered the ethics of animal testing and meat eating in a talk by Animal Aid.

Finally, they learned more about secular morality when meeting Jon Fayle who represented Humanist beliefs. The day ended with a comical and uplifting message from Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama whose interview was shown to students and taught that wisdom and compassion can help everyone create a better society and overcome times of difficulty.
