Black History Month

For Black History Month, we reflected on a month filled with inspiration, empowerment, and the celebration of Black History. This year's theme, 'We Can All Be Leaders,' resonated throughout our school, encouraging students to explore the boundless potential within themselves and those around them.

Embracing Ambition and Leadership

The heart of our celebration lay in the belief that ambition knows no bounds, and everyone possesses the capacity to be a leader in their own unique way. Through a series of engaging events and insightful speakers, we aimed to ignite the spark of ambition in every student, fostering an environment where everyone can stand proud of their potential to lead and make a positive impact.

Guest Speakers Who Inspired

  • Hasan Suleiman - Head Coach, Chelsea Under 18s. Hasan Suleiman captivated our Year 11 students with an inspirational assembly, sharing his personal career journey and offering insights into various career paths. His words encouraged students to consider their own aspirations with pride.
  • Baar Hersi - Assistant Headteacher. Baar Hersi shared her remarkable leadership journey, emphasising the impact her parents' experiences had on her success. Her passion and commitment to leadership left an indelible mark on our students, inspiring them to recognise and pursue their own unique paths.
  • Mariam Gacheru - Professional Basketball Player and Actor. Mariam Gacheru brought a dynamic perspective to Black History Month, sharing her experiences as a professional basketball player and her journey into the world of acting. Her story underscored the power of determination and pursuing one's passions.

Culinary Exploration and Mentorship

A highlight of the month was a masterclass in traditional African cuisine with celebrity chef Temi. A selected group of students had the opportunity to engage in a cooking experience, gaining valuable insights into Temi's journey and latest endeavours, including his recent work with Gordon Ramsey. This hands-on experience not only celebrated cultural diversity but also provided students with a unique mentorship opportunity.

Cherished Experiences for a Lifetime

As we wrapped up Black History Month, we acknowledged the impact of these experiences on our students. The stories shared, lessons learned, and skills acquired will undoubtedly be cherished for a long time to come. Our community is now more empowered, inspired, and united in recognising the leadership qualities within each individual.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making Black History Month a resounding success at Chiswick School. Together, we continue to nurture ambition, celebrate diversity, and foster a community where everyone can thrive as a leader.
