BackChiswick School Shortlisted for TES Awards
We are absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted for the prestigious TES school award - Secondary School of the Year - for the second time. This is an incredible achievement and we are delighted to be included amongst the most outstanding individuals and institutions that the education sector has to offer in the shortlist for the prestigious TES Schools Awards 2023.
The category of ‘Secondary School of the Year’ recognises schools that have had exceptional performance in the previous 12 months or experienced rapid improvement, and those that are maintaining continued excellence over a longer period. The judges look for more than academic achievement when shortlisting for this category; schools need to demonstrate innovation, imagination and efforts to develop children in ways that go beyond the league tables. Being shortlisted for such an award is testament to all the hard work and dedication shown by our fantastic students, staff and parents.
Chiswick School was also shortlisted for a further two awards. The Excellence in Creative Arts award is a true reflection of the extraordinary reach of the Creative Arts department both at school and in the community. Last year culminated in 50 Arts projects, with 30 more so far this year, working with well over 200 students. Projects have ranged from a sustainable garden to paintings on Chiswick High Street. Art exhibitions and competition winners exhibiting at top galleries in London. There have been music performances at the flower market, Heathrow Airport and other high profile community events. Our students have sung Vivaldi with Hounslow Music Service and produced plays in a number of different venues across West London including The Tabard Theatre, Watermans Arts Centre and Twickenham Exchange as well as a full programme of dance shows both on site and off.
It is therefore no surprise that our very own Tommy Robinson (Creative and Performing Arts Coordinator) has been shortlisted for Subject Lead of the Year! Tommy manages the community outreach of the Creative Arts department. He has led the painting of murals, building of gardens and worked closely with our primaries to ensure they have a positive creative experience before they join us in Year 7. In addition, Tommy directed eight plays last year, including pantomimes, Shakespeare, Brecht and a full scale musical. This year he has produced, written or directed 12 shows and taken the Performing Arts department to professional theatres to celebrate what they have achieved. In 2022 he won a Bronze Teacher of the Year Award (Pearson) and this year won a highly commended award for Drama inspiration at the national Music and Drama awards.
