BackYear 13 Celebration Evening
On Tuesday 25th June the Sixth Form held the Celebration Evening for the departing Year 13 students.
Students and parents were invited to enjoy a curry supper followed by an awards evening. Traditionally teachers are invited to select the students they wish to reward in their teaching group. This meant that hard work, a generous attitude towards their peers and an interest to learn were as important in that selection as having academic rigour.
Speeches from the Director of 6th Form and the Deputy Head thanked our lovely year group for an exciting two year journey together and wishing them every success in their new lives. Our Senior students spoke about their time in 6th form, thanking both staff and fellow students for their support and camaraderie. The Marcus Award was presented by Orlando Ames-Lewis to Nabiha Chowdhury & Alex Smith. Both students were selected by their year group as people who were always able to brighten the day just by being there; dependable, resilient students. This is a monetary award, now in its 21st year, set up to remember Marcus Ames-Lewis who died suddenly just before he was due to start university.
Hana-Mae Shirazi entertained everyone with two piano pieces. She successfully encouraged everyone to join in with the John Legend song, ‘All of Me’. Felix Woolcock recited a Maya Angelou poem of his choice, ‘Caged Bird’.
Everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and all the students left with a gift. We know, that like previous students, we will be seeing them in the future, maybe as mentors or just to let us know how they are getting on in the world. Chiswick alumni is growing and very much appreciated by 6th form staff to inspire future students.
