PE and Sport Update

Another successful athletics season saw Chiswick School students win events in all year groups and go on to represent Hounslow in the County athletics at the Stonex Stadium. Unfortunately we did not have any winner but several students made it to the final and were fantastic representatives of Chiswick School.

Chiswick have not fielded a cricket side for a couple of years therefore it was fantastic to see a Cricket fixture taking place at Chiswick School once again. With the recently refurbished nets and a new cricket strip on the playing fields Chiswick played their first game against Kingsley academy. Unfortunately Chiswick narrowly lost the fixture but the game was played in a fantastic spirit throughout with excellent performances from Sophie M, Sammy B, Alba P and Freddie R amongst others.

After narrowly losing to an experienced Emmanuel School in the final of the Chiswick Regatta at the start of the season Chiswick School have gone one step further with a huge win against Kew House School in the Barnes and Mortlake Regatta. None of this would be possible without the support of two local charities – The Quintin Hogg Memorial Fund (QHMF) and The Chiswick Rowing Trust (CRT), who promote the growth of local youth rowing and fund the Chiswick School rowing programme as well as all the hard work from the rowing coach Jackie Eastwood. Well done to the team of Ted K (cox), Eloise D, Flo G, Sophie M and Roxanne H.

This term sees many local primary schools completing their sports day and sports events at Chiswick School. The Year 8 Chiswick School Sports leaders help to organise and run these events for the primary school. We had over 25 students take part as a leader this year and each school was extremely complimentary on their attitude and effort throughout. We look forward to hosting further events in the future.

Sports day took place on Friday 12th July. After some nervousness about the weather, it eventually decided to stay dry! All students were to take part in an event on the day in order to win points for their form group. The track events included 100m, 200m, 300m, 800m and hurdles with the field events including Long jump, High Jump, Javelin, Shot put, Table tennis and badminton. The morning saw year 9 and 10 students competing followed by the year 7 and 8s in the afternoon. For the first time in memory, there was a clean sweep with Blenheim winning in every year group. The students' events were followed by the hotly anticipated teacher race which saw the year 8 and 9 team crowned joint winners. It was lovely to see parents in attendance for the first time as they cheered on the students in year 7 to 10 and a big thank you to the PTA who provided refreshments.
