BackWest London STEM Day
On Wednesday 3rd July, a group of students from Years 8 and 9 attended the West London STEM Day at West Ealing College. The day gave students an insight into STEM at a higher level.
Students completed three of the following activities:
- Robotics – students programmed a robot to navigate a series of obstacles
- E-FIT – students used police software to create an image of a ‘criminal’
- Vehicle – students designed, built and then raced a simple electric vehicle
- Medical Diagnostics – students were tasked with diagnosing two different ‘patients’
Throughout the day students worked in mixed school teams, with two students from our school working with two students from another school. This was designed to encourage them to develop their interpersonal relationships and team building skills, which are imperative for studying STEM subjects at a higher level.
This event was part of a wider national competition and the overall winning team from this event will progress to a Challenge Final which will be held in January of next year. The Chiswick School students who attended were a credit to the school in both their conduct and achievements.
- Samuele and Kairo's team were runners up in Robotics, Vehicle design and Medical Diagnostics and were in the overall winning team - they will progress to the final in January 2025
- Sofia and Alfred’s team won the Robotics challenge
- Tino and Arina’s team were runners up in Robotics, Medical diagnostics and E-FIT.
- Skye and Zuzanna were excellent team players and contributed enthusiastically throughout the day
