IET Faraday Challenge Day

The IET Faraday Challenge Day was held in school on Thursday 28th March. This is the second year we have hosted the event and this year Hammersmith Academy joined us.

The IET is one of the world’s leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community. As a charity they are committed to the advancement of science, engineering and technology and to encouraging young people to study the STEM subjects and consider careers within the engineering and technology sectors.

Four teams of Year 8 Chiswick students who have shown an aptitude for technology and 2 teams from Hammersmith Academy took part in this national challenge. Students were introduced to the challenge and had the opportunity to research, design and make a solutions to the engineering problem during the day.

After working out their solution and building a model, students pitched their solution to the rest of the teams and the IET judge.

We were delighted that for the second year running it was a Chiswick team who won the day event; they were awarded with a fabulous trophy and now have the opportunity to go to the IET headquarters in London in June, to attend a Festival for Aspiring Engineers event in partnership with the Jack Petchey Foundation.

The winning team members were: Logan 8MA, Layan 8HA, Finn 8MA, Magnus 8HA and Nina 8BL

All of the students worked incredibly hard and thoroughly enjoyed the event. We were delighted that a couple of students said that the experience has made them want to consider a career in Engineering.
