BackEnglish and Humanities Conference for Year 12
At the start of December, a group of 25 Year 12 students enjoyed a day at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, getting a feel for university life. As well as a tour of the campus and its incredible facilities (St Mary’s students and alumni regularly train and compete at Olympic level!), students engaged in a range of workshops and lectures. Some took part in a creative writing workshop, whilst others enjoyed a lecture on political failings towards the Windrush generation and its legacy in British politics.
Everybody was particularly delighted to get a guided tour of Strawberry Hill House, the neo-Gothic villa Horace Walpole designed himself before writing The Castle of Otranto. A very spooky way to end a day of academic endeavour, but great fun!
