New Elite Rowing Programme for Year 8 students
This year we have launched an Elite Rowing Programme for a small group of Year 8 students. It is such an exciting opportunity for some of our students to learn about this excellent sport with the potential to start competing from Year 9.
The rowing squad are progressing well and they can now all scull in time. All of them are learning to cox, which is no mean feat! Their understanding of river conditions is very good and they will be progressing into smaller boats very soon where they will be steering their own boats and taking on more responsibility.
We are so lucky to have access to the River Thames - it is on our doorstep, so why not use it! Over the years we have had a club running twice a week for students to experience rowing as a sport but this is the next level. Alongside our expert coach, Jackie, we are able to give students experience of an Olympic sport and - who knows - they may follow in the footsteps of Dame Katherine Grainger or Sir Steve Redgrave!
