Debate Mate Programme Launch
On Tuesday 5th November, students from Year 7 to Year 10 attended a trip for the launch of the Debate Mate Programme at the Emmanuel Centre in Westminster. Students enjoyed a fantastic introduction to the programme and the chance to watch a 'Show Debate' centred on the motion: “This house would punish parents or guardians for the crimes of their children.”
Some highlights of the evening included:
- Year 11 students Fowsia and Fatmia-Zahra participating in a 'Show Debate' on stage as veterans of the programme.
- Outstanding floor questions from Year 9 students as members of the audience.
- A Chiswick School student being invited on stage as time keeper during the Show Debate.
Over the last three weeks the Debate Mate after-school club has got off to a magical start with a steady number of students who have been attending and participating in a range of activities to master the basic principles of debating. Newcomers are still welcome to join at any point throughout the year. Debate Mate after-school club takes place every Monday at 15:10 in Room B28.
