BackEco Schools Update
Who are we? We are the Chiswick School Eco Committee. We are empowered to investigate the individual circumstances of our school and take action to help make it an eco-friendly place, by performing initial and subsequent environmental reviews, then preparing an action plan for the whole school to engage in.
In the summer term, with guidance from climatologists at Kings College London, we were able to monitor the school’s pollution levels via the monitoring devices made by the pupils of the Eco Committee. Levels of carbon dioxide, and other concentrated greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, were measured at different sites across the school with the simple device made by us. We learned about how pollution has been fluctuating because of human activity.
Furthermore, in order to reduce high pollution levels, we decided to promote world 'No Car Day' at the Summer Arts Festival. This helped raise awareness among many people and caused them to reduce their carbon footprints.
However, we believe that if we could cut down the waste emissions and carbon footprint of our school even further, we could start to make a huge difference to our local community. We are determined to launch more initiatives, such as our fledgling allotment team, that let pupils take the lead in improving the school for all.
