BackBay of Naples - Geography trip - 2019
From 19th-23rd October 2019, the Geography department took 40 budding Geographers to the Bay of Naples, Italy. The students had an opportunity to see a variety of different geographical landforms and historic features, directly linked with the GCSE specification.
On the first day, the students were guided around the area of Pompeii which had been impacted by the pyroclastic flow of the eruptions in 79AD and 1944. The different buildings and resources were kept fossilised by the heat which can be seen today. We then went to the vent of Mount Vesuvius which was an eye-opening moment for the students as they learned about the formation and impacts of this super volcano.
On the second day, we went on a beautiful trip around the island of Capri. This is a sedimentary rock formed island that is home to some very wealthy celebrities. We took a boat tour around the island looking at the different landforms and structures that were formed when this island emerged from the sea bed. After a lovely day on the coast, we then had a fun-filled evening going bowling, where the teachers took 1st and 2nd place!
Our final day was an opportunity to look along the whole coastline, known as the Amalfi Coast. This was a great opportunity for viewing the winding roads on the coast and to see how people live in this area. The views, colours and cathedrals were something the students won't forget.Overall, the trip was a delightful experience with the support of our guide, Martin, from NST tours, who was supportive with his knowledge and understanding of our GCSE specification. A big thank you to all the staff who gave up their time to take the students on the visit.
