- German Trip to Cologne
On a cold and rainy night a couple of weeks ago, Year 9 Germanists set off on their trip to Cologne to see the Christmas Markets. We had fun on the ferry and on the coach - and a good amount of snoozing, and had arrived in Cologne by lunchtime.
We dumped our bags and headed into town on the tram. From Heumarkt Station, we wandered down to the river and along to the Chocolate Museum. In the museum, we learnt about the chocolate production process and were able to watch workers packaging up yummy treats for sale. We also made sure we visited the chocolate fountain to sample delicious melted chocolate!
Afterwards, it was time to walk back along the river to the cathedral. We admired the Gothic architecture and then headed to the Christmas market around it. Our Year 9s proved to be keen shoppers and reported back to us wearing Santa hats and clutching plenty of interesting purchases!
We enjoyed our evening meal back at the hotel, and REALLY enjoyed our German breakfast the next morning. Then it was time to jump back on the coach and head home. More fun, chat and loads of games!
We had a lot of fun and loved seeing Germany at this atmospheric time of year. Thank you to the PTA for their support of the trip, and thank you to the teachers for running it!
