This year we used our Remembrance Day assemblies to both commemorate and consider how togetherness can help us as a community. In the year of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, students remembered how 13 independent nations, and countless countries from the then British Empire, came together to begin the liberation of Europe.
We referenced those previous students of Chiswick School who had fought in the World Wars, but also delved deeper into some of the less well known stories of the combatants from a range of different backgrounds including the first Muslim awardee of the Victoria Cross - Khudadad Khan.
The take home message to students was that in a world in which politicians and public figures use more divisive language than ever, we should remember that we are at our best when we work together.
