- Year 11 Geography Azores Trip
In the early hours of the 16th of October, 50 Year 11 students had the opportunity of a lifetime and embarked on a Geography trip to the Azores. It was an unforgettable experience filled with adventure, learning, and camaraderie. The first full day took us to an ancient lava cave, where we donned hard hats and explored its tunnels. We learnt about how the lava tunnels cooled and solidified to create these mesmerising cave structures. Later, we relaxed at the black sand beach, playing in the water, recognising coastal features and relaxed in a game of beach football.
The next day was a thrilling adventure into the dense forest. We walked upstream along rivers, explored stunning waterfalls, and learned about geothermal energy production. Here students were able to identify erosional, transportational and depositional processes. A highlight of the day was soaking in the serene natural hot springs, surrounded by lush greenery. We ended with a breath-taking view of the island’s lagoons, followed by dinner and more ice cream. Our final day included scenic treks to Sete Cidades and the magnificent blue and green lagoons.
The trip concluded with a special dinner celebrating Josh’s birthday, complete with a memorable cake-cutting moment! In the evening, we had music courtesy of Harry R and Miss Yusuf (a.k.a. Jazzy Radio). Returning home, we carried with us a wealth of memories and a sense of togetherness that transformed our group of 50 individuals into a close-knit Geography group. The Azores 2024 trip was a trip that we will always remember!
