Intervention Lead HLTA
When I first started at Chiswick School as a SEN Teaching Assistant, I was eager to support students in overcoming their individual challenges, helping them to access the curriculum in the best way possible. I quickly learned how important it was to build trust and develop strong, supportive relationships with students, particularly those with additional needs. Over time, I became more involved in tailored interventions, and my role naturally evolved into that of an Intervention Lead HLTA. Taking on more responsibility, I helped design and implement strategies to support students’ academic progress, while also working closely with teachers to ensure that interventions were effective. My experience at Chiswick has been incredibly rewarding, as I’ve seen firsthand how small adjustments can lead to big improvements in students’ confidence and achievement. The transition from SEND TA to Intervention Lead HLTA has been both challenging and fulfilling, allowing me to make a meaningful difference in the educational journey of so many students.
Running targeted interventions for students with SEMH needs has been one of the most impactful parts of my role. I’ve learned that each student’s emotional and social challenges are unique, so my approach must be tailored to address their individual needs. I focus on creating a safe, supportive space where students feel comfortable and valued, using strategies to help them manage their emotions, build resilience, and improve self-regulation. Through one-on-one sessions and small group work, I implement a range of techniques, including mindfulness exercises and social skills training, to help students engage more effectively with their learning and peers. Collaboration with teachers and support staff is key, ensuring that interventions are consistent and aligned with each student’s needs. It’s incredibly rewarding to see students build their confidence and coping skills, and knowing I’ve helped them make progress both emotionally and academically is what keeps me passionate about this work.
My time at Chiswick School has been a huge source of inspiration, motivating me to pursue a career in teaching. Working closely with students, particularly those with additional needs, has shown me the profound impact that dedicated educators can have on a student’s life. The supportive and collaborative environment at Chiswick allowed me to grow professionally and sparked a deep passion for education. This experience has driven me to pursue my teaching degree, and I’m now in my final year, with plans to train as a teacher starting in September. I’m excited to build on the knowledge and skills I’ve gained so far, and I hope to bring the same level of care and commitment to the classroom that I’ve witnessed throughout my time at Chiswick.
