Year 10 Visit the Houses of Parliament

The Year 10 GCSE Citizenship students began their much- anticipated trip to the Houses of Parliament on 7 May with a walk along the scenic South Bank, setting the perfect tone for the day ahead.

Once at Westminster, the group were fortunate to step inside both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, where students were captivated by the grandeur of the chambers. The King’s throne in the House of Lords left everyone in awe!

A visit to Westminster Hall was another memorable moment. Students stood on the very spot where Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II lay in state—a truly historic and moving experience.

The highlight of the day came during an engaging workshop on e-petitions, where students explored how the public can influence Parliament. The session was made even more special by a surprise visit from Andy Slaughter MP, who took questions from the students and shared insights about his role in government. Our students asked thoughtful and well-informed questions, showing just how eager they are to engage with and understand the democratic process.

It was a day to remember—full of excitement, learning and inspiration!
