- DT and Textiles Year 9 Trip to Young V&a...
On Wednesday 26th March a group of twenty year 9 students went to the Young V&A in Bethnal Green.
In the morning the students took part in a design workshop which introduced key objects and themes from the Young V&A Design gallery and supported them to develop their creativity, collaboration, empathy and critical thinking skills. The students had the opportunity to handle a range of museum objects, including clothing, products, and furniture that responds to people’s needs. They were then given a design challenge on the theme of ‘shelter’ and worked together in teams to respond to this, using a range of materials to prototype their ideas in 3D. The session ended with the students sharing their ideas and prototypes with the rest of the group.
In the afternoon students had the opportunity to explore the permanent exhibition at the museum, which they did with great enthusiasm. Overall this was a very successful visit which has hopefully inspired the students to pursue a career in the creative industries.
