Michelin-Starred Chef Joké Bakare Inspires Students at Chiswick School

Chiswick School had the honour of welcoming Joké Bakare, an esteemed Michelin-starred chef, for an inspiring culinary session. Just days after being named the 20th Most Influential Woman in the World by The Independent, Bakare’s visit was particularly meaningful as it took place ahead of International Women’s Day.

Joké, the first Black female chef in the UK and only the second worldwide to earn and retain a Michelin star, captivated students with her culinary expertise. She generously shared her knowledge by guiding them through the preparation of a simple yet flavourful dish, making African cuisine the focal point of the demonstration.

Students had the opportunity to craft traditional canapés under Joké’s expert instruction and later sampled their creations. The event also featured a lively Q&A session, where students engaged with the chef, gaining valuable insights into her journey and the world of fine dining. Bakare concluded her visit with a group demonstration on preparing fritters, further showcasing her exceptional skills and passion for food.

The visit left a lasting impression on both staff and students, reinforcing the significance of cultural heritage in cuisine and celebrating the achievements of an influential woman in the culinary industry. Chiswick School expressed immense gratitude for Joké’s time and inspiration, making the event a memorable highlight for all involved. We look forward to our second visit in the summer!
