Rounders
Rounders Club is thriving, with over 20 students regularly attending on Tuesdays and Thursdays. So far, we have played two matches. The Year 8 team lost a tough opener against a strong St Mark’s side, while the Year 9 team had an impressive win in their first game of the season, with standout performances from Maddie and Julie.
Trampolining Club
Trampolining Club has launched this term and is already proving popular. Led by an experienced coach, the club helps students develop their technique and confidence. Any interested students should speak to Mr Lewis in the PE office.
Cricket Club
This year, our Cricket Club is benefitting from the support of coaches from Chiswick Cricket Club. This partnership has enabled more frequent and higher-quality sessions. Attendance has grown to over 20 students per session, with a rising number of girls taking part. We’re looking forward to upcoming fixtures against Gunnersbury, Springwest, Rivers and Heathland School throughout June and July.
Rowing
The Chiswick Rowing Race Team, made up of Year 9 and 10 girls, kicked off the season with a strong performance, finishing 2nd in their opening regatta after a narrow defeat in the final. They have two more race meets to look forward to this season. Best of luck to the team!
PE Students Visit the National Theatre to Watch Dear England
Our Year 10 GCSE PE and Year 12 A Level PE students had the fantastic opportunity to attend a performance of Dear England at the National Theatre—a powerful and thought-provoking play that explores the transformation of the England men’s football team under the leadership of Gareth Southgate.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, not only for the high-quality production and engaging storytelling but also for the unique insight it provided into the psychological and sociological aspects of elite sport. The play delves into themes such as motivation, leadership, group dynamics, identity, and the pressure of national expectation—making it a rich and relevant resource for both the GCSE and A Level PE specifications.
For our GCSE students, the play vividly brought to life topics such as mental preparation for performance, the influence of media, and the role of coaches in developing elite athletes. Meanwhile, our A Level students were able to make deeper connections with their studies on sports psychology, including leadership theories, arousal and anxiety in sport, and the impact of social factors on performance and participation.
Overall, it was an inspiring day out that combined the arts with the science of sport—reminding us all of the power of performance, both on and off the field.
